I am installing a 60a sub panel in the same building as the main breaker box. It,s about 85 ‘ away from it. I am running the wires over head thru the rafters. My question is ” Do I need to run the wires thru conduit”?

The quick answer to this is no. But when you say thru the rafters do you mean you’re drilling them out for the wire? if so then you’re ok. But will there be access to the attic area afterwards? You should really ask the inspector.
